One hit wonders. Okay. At this point, we all know what inspired this video. I saw this meme and it just pissed me off. There was this girl in an interview that said Hawk to a spit on that thing. And now it's going viral. And it just made me think this is probably going to be another one hit wonder scenario. So today I wanted to talk about the many different things that come with being a one hit wonder and a

few examples of one hit wonders. So when you first get that big break, that big blow up off that one video, everybody's saying it, everyone's talking about it. Oh my God, you see the Hawk Tua girl? Like I'm being so for real. My dad knew what it was before me. I don't even scroll TikTok at all. So I had no idea what was going on. And you're not known for you. You're known for the one thing that you blew up on. Calling somebody the quote's

Talk to a girl is insane. I don't know, bro, but you see this a lot with memes. And once this meme is dead and people think it's unfunny or she just is no longer relevant, nobody's going to be giving her interviews and all this other shit because the reason why people were even interviewing her in the first place because she became a viral meme overnight. Like nobody knew who this girl was before the whole thing.

She doesn't have any established social medias or anything, but she said she quit her job. It's kind of different with the whole Bella porch thing in 2020 where she got like, I don't even know how many views. She already had an established fan base. So people knew who she was. But when you're a one hit wonder, you're only known for that one thing. People are going to go up to you and be like, oh my God, can you say the thing? Especially if it's like a meme that blows up and it's not like a video you made.

I don't know what the hell happened to that Fortnite card guy or whatever the hell his name is. But I hope he's out there somewhere doing well. Not to mention, just imagine you were the one that blew up overnight. Close your eyes and put yourself in the situation. Say one of the stupid things you say with your friend goes viral on TikTok.

And then everywhere you go, people are like, oh my God, I saw you on TikTok. You 100% would get annoyed. Don't lie. I know I would for sure. I never wanted to be the super viral sensation. I never wanted to be like an A-list celebrity. People are interviewing me on TMZ. I'm in the 2024 Forbes magazine. Yeah, definitely not.

Just having the ability to go outside or walk into a Walmart without getting recognized. I just feel a lot more at peace that way. But being a one-hit wonder, it's like you don't even get the perks of being famous. Like at one point, DJ Khaled was a meme. You know, he's famous. Everybody knows him. Well, not everybody, but you get the point. DJ Khaled, he has all the money in the world. All the girls love him and he is dialed in. But a lot of people who have a viral clip, they don't even make the money off it.

It's the people who posted it. It's like you get all this clout and buzz without even getting money from it. That's like the worst trade-off in the world. Like imagine if the TikTok Riz Party kids, right? They were the ones that uploaded that 50 million view video.

That is a shit ton of bread right there. Whoever it was that uploaded this video, the DJ, I don't know who it was, but that is a shit ton of money. Like if I was that broad, I'd be asking for a cut. I'm not even gonna lie. A meme is like the worst way you can go viral because they have limited lifespans.

There's only so many times you can refer to your friend as Turkish Quandale Dingle. Yeah, that's what people actually call this kid. I can't believe it. Before people just say, all right, bro, the joke's old. Just move on. Obviously, if you milk it too much, it's just gonna grow like extremely corny. The same meme can be done only so many times because memes are always changing. Nowadays, we have just pure brain rot as memes.

It's actually insane. I don't know how memes have devolved so much. But I feel like when you're a music artist, it's kind of different. Having a one-hit wonder song isn't actually so bad, I don't think. Yeah, sure, you'd want more songs to go viral, but a lot of these one-hit wonder songs are timeless. Everybody loves them. That's the reason why they have so many monthly listeners.

Take the guy, for example, that made the song, Somebody That I Used To Know. Like, we all know the song, right? And we know it as a classic. Well, the people who grew up when I did, at least. Nobody is ever going to forget that song, bro. It's a banger. Somebody That I Used To Know has over a billion plays. Shit, I want that kind of money. But he could really retire off that one song, which is crazy to think about.

But in comparison for like, I don't know going viral for a meme you can't even compare the two But of course there were songs that were well annoying nowadays before its time It was great like the hit the kwan song. I'm sure some of you remember that obviously Nobody's gonna say let's throw on that hit the kwan in the car

If anybody says that, you're getting kicked out of my car. But still, at the time though, great song. The Kwan is just not relevant anymore. But of course, back in 2015, I think, I was hitting the Kwan at my school dance. And so was everybody else. And of course, we were all doing the whip too. What I've seen is the songs that are dances, nobody really fucks with them anymore.

At least the ones in recent times. Like, of course, the Cupid Shuffle is still a banger. Come on now. Cha-Cha Slide. The whip has absolutely nothing on the Cha-Cha Slide. Of course, we can't forget Mo Bamba. I'm sure a lot of you remember this song if you were heavily into the rap scene. This song was like that one song that everybody turned up to and knew the lyrics of.

But I was at the Summer Smash Lyrical Lemonade show a couple weeks ago. And sadly, nobody knew the lyrics. I was literally about to call him Mo Bamba. Check Wes's other songs. I mean, some people in the crowd knew them, but I just personally didn't know them. The people all in like Cactus Jack did like a show together. So everybody was just waiting for Travis Scott.

If he had more hits, he as an artist would 100% be more of like a household name, if that makes sense. But it's honestly better than being a TikTok artist. You're purely known for that one song that blew up on TikTok. People don't even know the full words of the song. They only know the first 20 seconds that make up the TikTok sound.

Like if you have the right team behind you pushing your music, you probably could make a career out of a TikTok song. If you have absolutely no promo at all, like, I don't know, bro, you might be cooked. The only way people are going to know about you is through TikTok. And a lot of these artists have to perfectly engineer their songs so they have a memorable, catchy part of the song where people can turn it into a TikTok sound. Or if I'm being honest, anything could be a TikTok sound. When you have a song that blows up on TikTok,

People also milk the shit out of it. Like they do sped up version, a slowed down version. The song is just cooked at this point. If you try to do shows, a lot of people aren't even going to know the full lyrics. And a lot of times TikTok songs just also become very corny after the sound has just been played for so long. Like when is the last time you've heard somebody turn it up to like Dance Monkey or some shit? I think I talked about it already in my video about the aux

Chord it might be out by time you're seeing this. It might not be I don't know yet This song literally has three billion streams. I think it was like 2020 or 2021 This shit was all over the world, but I always thought this song was annoying But despite that I mean she made a crazy bag off it

So I can't hate but honestly the reason why I say like it's not so bad is because you kind of build The career you want out of being a one-hit wonder. Yeah, sure You don't get your own mcdonald's meal like travis scott But still you're able to do the career that you want because that song is constantly getting plays And while some of these people are still like doing pretty well They're not getting big as like their hit song that they made

It's still better than like not being able to do that career. And when you have a one hit wonder, it's kind of like a gamble. If that success is going to continue, if you know what I mean, like if you're going to stay a household name, even if you don't, it's whatever, you know, that song still made a shit ton of money and a lot of one hit wonders for their time.
