Today marks one week until we officially kick off Season 9 next Tuesday, August 13th with new episodes. But today I wanted to make a few announcements. A year ago as we began Season 8, I spoke about the deep act of listening, and what it means to be a community of listeners.

it becomes more and more true to me as i do this work that regardless of where you are in your life where you stand politically who you are or where you come from there is no more universally important skill than to be able to listen deeply and compassionately to the complexities of other people's lives

As I had said last year, we are led to believe we are a culture driven by short attention spans, sound bites, and knee-jerk reactions. But from where I stand, I see a hunger for the long format, for the wider picture, and for the deeper truths, regardless of how difficult they are sometimes to swallow.

And in a year of supposed division, alienation, ignorance, and attention deficits, I've been delighted to see this community of listeners grow so tremendously, to participate in the apparently radical act of showing up, being present, and simply listening with an open heart to the lives of others. In that spirit, I'm hoping to grow and strengthen the This Is Actually Happening community even more this year.

First, in terms of the upcoming schedule, we will continue to release new episodes every two weeks. However, we'll have back-to-back episodes each week for the last three weeks of August to start the season, which includes a bonus episode on August 20th, featuring the story of Tara Newell, who is a key figure in the story of the Dirty John podcast. Also, we are relaunching a This Is Actually Happening store, which will have t-shirts and other branded items available beginning on August 13th with the start of the new season.

As part of the store launch, I've opened up submissions to any designers out there who would like to reimagine that this is Actually Happening brand. Submit your designs to the email address actuallyhappeningpodcast at gmail.com. And if we select it for the store, you'll get 20% of any associated sales. We're also always looking for new interesting stories.

So if you feel you have a story to tell on the show, submit a couple paragraphs describing your experience to the same email address, actuallyhappeningpodcast at gmail.com. And finally, to participate in the This Is Actually Happening community of listeners, give feedback, and stay updated on news and new episodes, follow us on the show's Instagram page at actuallyhappening.

Even $2 a month goes a long way to helping us do what we do. Again, thank you all for supporting and participating in this community. I look forward to sharing a new season with you all next week.

Stay tuned.

Hey, it's Guy Raz here, host of How I Built This, a podcast that gives you a front row seat to how some of the best known companies in the world were built.

In a new weekly series we've launched called Advice Line, I'm joined by some legendary founders and together we talk to entrepreneurs in every industry to help tackle their roadblocks in real time. Everybody buys on feeling, Guy, like everybody. So if you don't give them the feeling that they're looking for, they're not going to buy. A lot of times founders will go outside of themselves to build a story.

And you can't replicate heart. You know, I think we all have a little bit of imposter syndrome, which isn't the worst thing in the world because it doesn't allow you to get overconfident and think that you're invincible. Check out the advice line by following How I Built This on the Wondery app or wherever you get your podcasts. You can listen to How I Built This early and ad-free right now on Wondery+.
