Live from NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. Hurricane Milton survivors are leaning on each other as they spend a second full day hauling away debris, sorting through the wreckage of their homes or businesses. One local station reports neighbors in Palm Beach County, Florida are showing up for each other with food or helping clean debris.

Two days later, people like this 92-year-old woman are still being rescued from their flooded homes. Many communities may have been as ready as they'd ever be for the powerful winds and rain of a major hurricane ahead of Wednesday night's landfall, but apparently not all the tornadoes.

Dozens were reported. In St. Lucie County, Commissioner Chris Zdowski says at least six people died when multiple twisters touched down. He says people, including first responders, were in shock. It looked like a war zone. I spent the entire evening that evening as the tornadoes touched down. We were doing search and recovery with our fire department and local sheriff's office.

And I can tell you that there are hundreds of mobile homes and prefab homes that are just completely wiped off the ground.

Former President Donald Trump holds a rally in Aurora, Colorado today after pushing claims that Venezuelan gangs are running rampant there. Here's Colorado Public Radio's Benta Birkeland. Trump is speaking at a resort on the outskirts of the city of Aurora. Some have falsely claimed the city has been taken over by gangs and Trump's campaign has called it a war zone.

At a rally in New York, Trump first said he would visit Aurora and Springfield, Ohio. You may never see me again, but that's okay. Gotta do what I gotta do. Local officials, including the mayor, a Republican, say Aurora is safe, and Trump is conflating isolated incidents of gang activity. For local Trump supporters, this could be their only chance to see him in Colorado ahead of Election Day. For NPR News, I'm Benta Birkeland.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting with the new president of Iran today in Central Asia. Here's NPR's Charles Maines. Iranian President Massoud Pazushkian was only elected to his post in July following the death of his predecessor in a plane crash. Ahead of their talks at a conference in the Central Asian nation of Turkmenistan, Putin said he was grateful to finally meet Pazushkian and called for increased cooperation against the hostile West.

Iran has provided drones for the Kremlin's war in Ukraine. The U.S. says Iran also sells Russia ballistic missiles. And the Kremlin, weapons to Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, charges Moscow and Tehran deny. Yet both Putin and Pazhashkian noted their views of current events often aligned. The two leaders are expected to sign a strategic partnership agreement when they meet again in Russia later this month. Charles Mainz, NPR News, Moscow.
