Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. With just three weeks to go before the November 5th election, both Vice President Harris and former President Donald Trump are focusing on seven key battleground states. Monday, Harris was in Erie, Pennsylvania, outlining her economic plan. America is ready for an optimistic generation of leadership.

Which is why Democrats, Republicans, Independents are supporting our campaign. Because we need a president who works for all the American people. Harris campaigns in Detroit on Tuesday. Donald Trump will be in suburban Atlanta.

Florida communities continue to work on the recovery and the cleanup after two major hurricanes hit the state within two weeks. NPR's Liz Baker reports from Englewood, where the damage is apparent in the piles of soggy belongings along the roadside. The modest cinderblock homes on this street near the ocean look okay. On the outside. Inside? I have nothing in my house. Look in there. You see anything in there? Eddie Pardo's home is totally empty.

All material things that I've accumulated over the last 20 years are sitting right there at the curb. A mountain of furniture, clothing, appliances, baby photos of his three kids, all ruined by Hurricane Milton's storm surge. He's been able to salvage enough to fit inside a single Tupperware box. One flip-flop. Four photos from his twin daughter's graduation. That's okay. Over the last five days, that's become his mantra. It's okay.

Still here. He wants to stay in the neighborhood, no matter what. Liz Baker, NPR News, Englewood, Florida.

France's far-right leader Marine Le Pen testified today in a high-stakes trial over a fake job scheme that threatens her political future. NPR's Eleanor Bersley reports the trial could end her plans to run for president in three years. Marine Le Pen told the court she never thought she was committing, quote, the least irregularity. She's accused of paying three European Parliament assistants with EU funds while they worked for her party in France.

Le Pen and more than two dozen party figures stand accused of embezzling millions of euros. They deny the charges. If found guilty, each of the co-defendants could be sentenced to up to a decade in prison or face fines of a million euros. Le Pen herself faces the threat of being barred from running for public office for up to 10 years, putting her long-held presidential ambitions in jeopardy. Eleanor Beardsley in Pierre News, Paris.

On Wall Street, both the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 finished with record closes. On Monday, the Dow added 201 points. The S&P was up nearly 45 points. From Washington, you're listening to NPR News. This message comes from Schwab. At Schwab, how you invest is your choice, not theirs.
