The White House says President Biden's postponing his upcoming trip to Germany and Angola to oversee the federal response to Hurricane Milton, which has intensified to top sustained winds of 155 miles per hour as it approaches the west coast of Florida, and it's expected to make landfall tomorrow night in the Tampa Bay area. Here's President Biden speaking at an event in Milwaukee just a short time ago. Most important message today is

For all those who may be listening to this in the impacted areas, listen to the local authorities. Follow safety instructions, including evacuation orders. Hurricane Milton is barreling toward a region that has barely begun to recover from Hurricane Helene's strike less than two weeks ago. At the National Hurricane Center, Daniel Brown warns of an enormous amount of rainfall today.

That will cause severe floods from the coast and further inland. We're also looking at a potential for very heavy rainfall, up to 6 to 12 inches of rainfall, perhaps as high as 18 inches in some locations. And again, there's a high risk of flooding across much of central Florida because of that heavy rainfall. One of the immediate concerns is the danger posed by piles of haleen debris that can be whipped up during Milton and cause serious injury or death.

With early voting already underway in some states, Vice President Harris is doing a whirlwind of high-profile interviews this week. Last night, CBS's 60 Minutes. Today, she's got three more. Then Piers Asmohalid reports. Harris is sitting down for a number of interviews, many of them friendly, some traditional media, others not.

In the lineup, Howard Stern and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Ahead of them on ABC's The View, Harris was asked if she would have done anything differently than President Biden these last four years. There is not a thing that comes to mind. Later, she came back to the question to add one thing. I'm going to have a Republican in my cabinet because I don't...

I don't feel burdened by letting pride get in the way of a good idea. Her comments come as some voters want to see Harris differentiate herself not only from her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, but also the previous Democratic nominee, President Biden. Asma Khalid, NPR News.

Reuters reports the Federal Aviation Administration says it has issued a safety alert to airlines about certain Boeing 737 planes that may experience problems with rudder movement, quote, during approach prior to landing.

Last week, the National Transportation Safety Board said more than 40 foreign operators of Boeing 737s may be using MAX or 737 next-generation planes with rudder components that could pose safety risks. The NTSB also says 16 impacted components may still be installed on U.S.-registered aircraft. This is NPR News.
