Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Herbst. The northern eyewall of Hurricane Milton is starting to move onshore of Florida's Gulf Coast as the National Hurricane Center warns of a life-threatening storm surge. Milton has weakened slightly with maximum sustained winds of 120 miles an hour, but it remains a major Category 3 storm with a punishing storm surge threat from Tampa Bay south to Fort Myers.

NPR's Greg Allen has more. Well, it's moving fast, so we might see landfall quicker than we originally anticipated. It does seem like it's weakening somewhat, but the National Hurricane Center is still saying it still could hit as a major hurricane. We're all going to see the storm surge as much as 13 feet in some areas. Tampa Bay is going to see possibly 9 feet, and there's water already kind of coming over the banks here in Tampa Bay and flooding some streets. So we're starting to see the storm surge all along the coast now.

In Pierce, Greg Allen. There were more than 50 tornado warnings. Milton is forecast to remain a hurricane as it turns over Florida and exits into the Atlantic tomorrow.

Gaza's health ministry says the death toll of Palestinians killed in the war from Israeli attacks has surpassed 42,000. Empiric's Ayob Atrawi reports the Israeli military is intensifying its operations in northern Gaza against Hamas and ordered all of the north's residents and hospitals to evacuate south.

The World Food Program says critical aid lifelines to hundreds of thousands of people in northern Gaza have been cut off, with no food aid entering for the past eight days. The UN agency told NPR it's distributing its last remaining food stocks there. Fuel to north Gaza has also been blocked. Gaza's health ministry issued an urgent plea for fuel to keep generators running in hospitals in the north treating wounded patients from the bombardment.

Kogat, the Israeli military body responsible for civilian affairs in Gaza, denied Israel had halted the entry of humanitarian aid into northern Gaza, but did not immediately provide further details. The State Department says the humanitarian situation in north Gaza is the subject of urgent discussions with Israel.

Honda's recalling more than 1.7 million vehicles for a defect that could make steering difficult. And here's Camila Dominovsky reports. The recall includes the Acura Integra, Honda CR-V, and the Civic family, all from model year 2022 or newer. Honda thinks about 1% of recalled cars actually have the faulty part.

It's a badly manufactured worm wheel, the part where the rotation from turning the steering wheel turns into turning a gear to turn the wheels. Turns out, these defective worm wheels can swell. There's also a spring that's wound too tight. Add it up and you might get an abnormal noise and a sticky feeling when you turn the steering wheel. As usual, the safety recall fix is free.
